inflammation & remediation
Inflammation is a key aspect of the body’s immune defenses and is a normal part of your body’s response to bodily insults, injuries and invaders (like viruses and bacteria). It is the first step in the process of healing and is normally followed by a process called remediation which cleans up the inflammatory site and returns your body to a state of homeostasis. Whether it is as simple as cutting your finger or as serious as a Covid 19 infection or blood clot, the body initiates an inflammatory response to control the event.
The key components of this inflammation/remediation system are substances called reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (ROS) which are like fire alarms alerting the body’s immune defenses to problem areas. These ROS and RNS molecules are “normal” body products and are produced by simply being alive. Because these molecules play such key roles in the body’s defense system, there are systems and backup systems in place to keep them under control. But like pretty much everything, these systems are limited in their capacities and exceeding their capacities leads to metabolic chaos and a state called CHRONIC INFLAMMATION. This chronic inflammatory state can stay hidden bubbling beneath the surface until it breaks out and becomes an illness. Once this happens it is like getting a genie back into the bottle.
